European tools
Made in Europe, from the code to the list.
This page and its list run on six tools from five European countries. Here's what each one does and where it comes from.
The tools
Every tool, and what it does here.
Design and build
-
Builds every page into plain HTML before it goes online, so it opens fast with very little JavaScript.
Germany
-
Our typeface, by Kostas Bartsokas from Thessaloniki. It comes from this site itself.
Greece
-
Every icon you see, built into the pages, with no icon font.
Poland
Code and hosting
The list
-
Keeps the list and sends its emails, with a confirmed sign-up and no open tracking.
Spain
The exceptions, openly
Spaceship (USA) holds the name bouzoukia.app and the mailbox hello@bouzoukia.app until the launch, when everything moves to European hosting. The tools that build the page before it goes online (Vite, Node.js, npm) aren't European, but they run only on our own computer and our own server, and never reach you. Mailrelay may show Google's reCAPTCHA (USA) on its own page when a sign-up looks suspicious. It is never on ours.
Why
Why only European ones.
-
Data under European law
Every company on this list is based in Europe and answers to the GDPR for whatever it handles.
-
Money stays in Europe
What we pay for this page goes to European companies and the people who work there.
-
Europe on its own technology
Each European choice makes us a little less dependent on others for the basics.
-
Open source at the core
Vike, Commissioner, Tabler Icons and Forgejo are open source, so anyone can check them.
